Good Times at the 16th Annual Ronald McDonald House 5K Run/Walk!

What a day! Over 200 volunteers started the day early in the morning, setting up and making sure everything was ready to go.

103Fisher-Price transformed Tripi Field into an interactive play space with a Power Wheels track, toddler ride-ons, basketball, soccer, football toss, bean bag toss, toddler play area, photo booth and lots of fun. Over 130 young children were in playground bliss as their runner family members prepared for the race.

194At 6:30PM, 1,140 runners were called to the starting line and anticipation filled the air. The Gallson family was introduced and a moment was taken to dedicate the race to the memory of Phillip Gallson, a RMHC Board member and long-time supporter and friend of the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House. The starting horn was fired and the runners were off! Family and friends filled sidewalks, cheering on their runners.
Volunteers manned the water stations and handed out bottled water, donated by Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Buffalo. Help from the Buffalo Police kept the traffic at bay.

452On the back lawn, the owners and operators of McDonald Restaurants of WNY and NW PA generously supplied the burgers and apple slices and manned the food service tables and grills, making sure everyone had their fill. Chips (donated by JetBlue), yogurt (courtesy of Upstate Farms) and granola bars (donated by Little Debbie) were in abundance.

For dessert, Sam’s Club donated their famous home-made chocolate chip cookies, and James Desiderio & Sons topped off the menu with cases of bananas, power food for our runners and non-runners. All in all, it was a yummy picnic with something for everyone.

533In the lot behind the House, the post party started hopping with music donated by the Scott Celani Band and ice cold beer donated by Try-It Distributing, Labatt’s and Flying Bison Brewing Company. Children danced and adults enjoyed a cold one, as runners anxiously awaited the official results and awards. The raffle was held and wonderful prizes donated by Orville’s Appliances & Mattresses ($1,500 gift certificate to use on a bedding purchase), Dick’s Sporting Goods ($300 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card), JetBlue Airlines (2 round trip tickets on JetBlue Airlines), and Dunn Tire ($400 Dunn Tire gift certificate), were won by 4 lucky individuals.

The day was captured by ING Photography, and our Young Professional Committee who spent the evening taking photos, live tweeting, and posting on Instagram and Snapchat.

Be part of the excitement next year: July 25, 2018!
