Buffalo, N.Y. (June 14, 2018) – Yesterday morning at a press conference held at the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Western New York (RMHC of WNY) unveiled their Happy Wheels Cart. Starting today, the Happy Wheels Cart will travel through the pediatric hallways visiting families and patients of Oishei Children’s Hospital.

“Our Happy Wheels Cart Program started three years ago with a vision to bring our Ronald McDonald House signature hospitality to patients’ bedside to help support inpatient children and their caregivers by distributing complimentary bottled water, snacks and activities to help pass the time and brighten days. Our “Little House on Wheels” came to fruition thanks to the time, talent and treasure of Fisher-Price, who made this vision a reality,” said Sally Vincent, Executive Director, RMHC of WNY. “We are excited to expand our programs at Oishei Children’s Hospital by adding our Happy Wheels Cart to our new Family Lounge which we opened on the fifth floor in November of last year. Now, in addition to the over 600 hundred families we serve each year through our Buffalo Ronald McDonald House, we will touch thousands of families from both our local community and outside of our local community, each year through our programming at Oishei Children’s Hospital.”

“The new Happy Meals Cart from our partners at Ronald McDonald House Charities of WNY and Fisher-Price will serve to further enhance the care we provide the kids, moms and families at Oishei Children’s Hospital. Our families, visitors and care providers have come to rely on the Ronald McDonald House Family Lounge, located on the Fisher-Price/Mattel Family & Child Support Services Floor, as another place of respite in the new hospital. We’re grateful for their continued support of our mission to advance the overall health and well-being of our community,” adds, Allegra C. Jaros, MBA, President, John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.

The Fisher-Price & RMH Partnership
Fisher-Price and Mattel Children’s Foundation have been partners with RMHC of WNY for over 30 years. They have supported programs such as the Fisher-Price Resource library and counseling programs (1999-2001), the Fisher-Price Play Room in the Buffalo House on West Ferry Street which they continue to support and maintain today (2008-present), the Fisher-Price outside Play Space during the Ronald McDonald House 5K Run (starting in 2003 with Ronald’s Kids Korner, renamed to Fisher-Price Play Space in 2007), plus many more gifts of volunteer time, talent and treasure.
Fisher-Price and Mattel Children’s Foundation have continued to play a key role in our success, making a real difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. We at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western New York remain inspired by their dedication. Their continued generosity has helped us to create positive patient and family experiences that have meant so much to our community.
