RMHC-Sweden-2011-11How do I receive a referral to stay at the House?
Family members must be first referred to the House by a hospital staff member, social worker, nurse or doctor. Referrals can be made between 9:00 a.m. and 9 p.m., seven days a week, by calling us at (716) 883-1177.

What is the minimum distance from the House a family must live in order to stay here?
Families who travel a minimum distance of 25 miles to Buffalo for their child’s treatment are eligible to stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo.

Who can stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo?
Parents and immediate family members of pediatric patients who are undergoing medical
treatment for illness or injuries at a Buffalo area hospital. In keeping with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Ronald McDonald House Charities defines “pediatric patient” as those age 21 and younger.

If a “parent is under the age of 18, can they stay at the House by themselves??
You have to be 18 years or older to stay by yourself.  If you are under the age of 18 years old, a legal guardian over the age of 21 would need to accompany you.

How much does it cost to stay at the House?
We recognize that the serious illness or injury of a child can cause significant financial burdens, especially if the family travels a great distance for medical treatment.  Although, it costs approximately $100 a night to operate the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House program, we ask our guest families to make a donation of $15 a night per room, or whatever amount they are able to donate, to continue House operations for future guests.

A donation is not required. No eligible family is ever asked to leave the House and no eligible family is ever denied future stays at the House because they could not or did not make a donation.

Can my family stay at the House with me?
Our rooms range in size and can accommodate between 1-5 people.  Parents/guardians, siblings or essential caregivers who will be directly involved with the daily support of the pediatric patient, are welcome to stay, room capacity permitting.

Siblings of the pediatric patient who are under age 18 are eligible to stay at the Ronald McDonald House with a parent, guardian or responsible adult, but such siblings must be supervised at all times by the parent, guardian or responsible adult.

Does the room fee include food?
The House provides donated food items and a fully equipped kitchen that families may use to prepare their meals. Families can also enjoy meals and baked goods prepared by community volunteers. The cheerful and bright dining room provides a place for families to enjoy a home-cooked meal while visiting with other guests.
