If the Walls Could Talk

Since 1983, more than 21,411 families have passed through the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House doors, each experiencing a unique medical journey.  

For the past 40 years, the House has been there for families while their children are seeking medical treatment in Buffalo. If the House walls could talk, they would tell you about the times it sees its lights turn on in the middle of the night as a family receives an urgent call. 

The kitchen walls would share that it has heard laughter as volunteers prepare meals daily for guest families, and witnessed the smiles on families’ faces when they arrive, after a long day at the hospital, to a kitchen full of warm food.  

The bedroom walls would say they saw tear-soaked pillows from families who received bad news as well as families who received hopeful information. Our playroom’s walls would say they see joy in the children’s eyes while they’re pretending to drive the well-known life-sized wooden school bus around the room. 

The living room walls would tell stories about families supporting each other as they navigate long stays at the hospital or share a movie-watching night together.  

Your donations have supported moments like these by providing families with a home away from home when they needed it for the past 40 years. As we prepare for the next four decades, we anticipate many more challenging and joyous occasions will happen at the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House.

The mission of RMHC of WNY is to create and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. Since 1983, our Buffalo Ronald McDonald House has served more than 21,411 families from New York, neighboring states, and globally. Since opening in late 2017, our Ronald McDonald Family Room located in John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital (OCH) receives more than 1,000 visits each month, and our Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart at OCH makes more than 360 bedside visits each week. Our recently launched Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart visits the Mother/Baby and NICU units at Sisters of Charity Hospital each week.
